Get armed for a zombie close encounter

While nothing takes down an advancing hungry zombie faster than a bullet to the head there are times when the best weapon is something more quite, something more suited to close combat, and less likely to run out of ammo. Any true zombie-fighting hero knows that carrying only one weapon, even if it is a Saiga-12 shotgun, isn’t advisable. These knives and swords are great clutch weapons for when you need a sharp killing edge in close combat with undead.

Zombie Combat with Knives and Swords

When you’re in a situation in which a brain dead ghoul is lumbering towards you intent on feasting on your flesh then odds are you’ll grab anything within your reach to fight it off with. If you happen to be in a kitchen, then grabbing a steak knife and plunging in into an eye-socket can do the trick. But that’s only for those who aren’t prepared.

Choosing Your Blade

Zombie Defense Force members know that those who fail to train with weapons pre-outbreak have an 80% higher chance of getting eaten in the first days of the infection. Training with knives and swords is a serious part of your overall training against the living dead! So which knives and swords work best for zombie killing? While the actual condition of the weapon and the time that you put into training with it are most important some common favorite are buck knives, bayonets, and machetes.

Rules for Zombie Combat with Blades

Rule one is the sharper the better. Even undead flesh can be difficult to cut through with a dull blade. Speed counts when you’re fending off attackers that are trying to sink their teeth into your skin. Rule two is to steer clear from cheaply made knives and swords. Many zombie defense force members chose to carry a standard 6-inch buck knife for close combat, but the longer the better as long as you can handle it correctly.

Finally rule three for combat with knives and swords against the undead is to NOT do it if you don’t have to! You might decide you’d like nothing more than to charge into a crowd of those moaning soulless freaks but you should never endanger your life unless you have no choice. Once the infection spreads you’ll have millions of opportunities to kill zombies, so take your time and fight smart
